THE AREA

The village is located on the shores of the Ionian Sea. It is 12 km away. W.-NW. from Filiates and 16 km NW.-N. from the city of Igoumenitsa. It is built north of the Kalamas river in the valley of Sayada, where its inhabitants grow citrus fruits (mandarins and oranges).

Palaia Sayada is found in a few km, on the mountainside on the right hand side as we head towards the beautiful fishing village of Sayada. The transition to the area of the settlement can be done by car up to a point and from there on it is recommended to walk. It is now a ruined picturesque settlement with buildings of high architectural interest. Paved streets adorn the village which consists of many old mansions and end in the central square where you will find the old fountain called “Piadi” and the picturesque church of Agios Georgios standing proudly after so many years. The view from this point towards the delta of Kalamas and Sayada is wonderful.
